« The finish is an ancient Japanese tapestry of the Genpei war that is laser printed on Washi paper and meticulously hand-laid on the all-birch shells. The drums are then hand sprayed with a clear lacquer that is hand-buffed to a lustrous shine. Each drum depicts a different battle scene from the war that was a pivotal point in Japan’s history.
We cut the bearing edges at sixty degrees with a round profile giving the head more surface contact with the shell. This further enhances the low fundamental of the Hokkaido birch shells. »

In the aftermath of the war, the colors of the Taira and Minamoto standards, red and white, respectively, were established as Japan’s national colors, as reflected in the country’s flag. »
