What makes Italy’s Fiemme Valley so celebrated among instrument makers?
Some believe that a mini ice age may have caused these ancient trees in the Italian Alps to grow at a slower rate, giving the woods the structural adaptability needed to retain their brilliant tones under the stress of the instrument-making process.
Whatever the cause, it’s no secret that the Norway spruce in this region has been used in Stradivarius violins and other prized orchestral instruments for centuries.
It’s from these same trees that DW’s John Good chose to source the Norway spruce in his Collector’s Series Exotic Stradivarius 45th Anniversary shell pack.

An intricate center inlay is laser-cut and hand-assembled from exotic woods including Italian Grey Poplar, Black-Dyed Pearwood, and Blue Sapphire-Dyed Koto wood.
The classic F-Hole artwork pays tribute to world-renown violin makers, and the Roman numerals commemorate DW’s milestone.
